Solution notes
Three layers of defense
Within five moves, take out the Field Marshal, two Landmines and the Flag, and keep your Engineer safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Bomb | A11 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | E7 |
| Opponent's side | Field Marshal 9 | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | D11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | E12 |
| Opponent's side | Flag | D12 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Bomb: A11 → C11 · Captures: Field Marshal 9 · Removed
- Engineer 1: E7 → D11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: D11 → E11
- Engineer 1: E11 → E12 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: E12 → D12 · Captures: Flag
Why this works
Trade the bomb for the commander on C11, then send the engineer to defuse D11. Continue to E11, defuse the second mine on E12, and only then enter D12. The E11 stop is needed because E12 is reached by a road.
Other orders and traps
The engineer cannot clear the commander and survive. Capturing the flag after D11 also leaves the E12 mine unresolved and ends the attempt too early.
Clear the Bomb first
Within four moves, take out the Bomb, the Landmine and the Flag, and keep your Engineer safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Lieutenant 2 | A11 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | E7 |
| Opponent's side | Bomb | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | D11 |
| Opponent's side | Flag | D12 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Lieutenant 2: A11 → C11 · Captures: Bomb · Removed
- Engineer 1: E7 → D11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: D11 → D12 · Captures: Flag
Why this works
Use the rank-2 piece to trade with the bomb on C11. The engineer can then reach and defuse D11 through the connected railway, before capturing D12. This route takes three moves, one fewer than the allowed four.
Other orders and traps
Any piece fighting a bomb is removed with it. Sending the engineer into C11 sacrifices the piece that must survive and clear the mine.
Two passages
Within four moves, take out the Field Marshal, the General and the Landmine, and send the Engineer to the target camp.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Bomb | A7 |
| Your side | Bomb | A11 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | E6 |
| Opponent's side | Field Marshal 9 | D7 |
| Opponent's side | General 8 | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | E11 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Bomb: A7 → D7 · Captures: Field Marshal 9 · Removed
- Bomb: A11 → C11 · Captures: General 8 · Removed
- Engineer 1: E6 → E11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: E11 → D10
Why this works
The two bombs remove the defenders at D7 and C11. The engineer then reaches E11 by railway, defuses the mine and moves into the D10 camp. Each bomb opens a route without asking the engineer to fight a higher rank.
Other orders and traps
The two bomb attacks can be reversed because the enemy holds position. Finishing at E11 is insufficient: reaching the D10 camp is also part of the objective.
Fall back, then advance
Within four moves, take out the Field Marshal and send the Lieutenant to the target. Keep the Lieutenant safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Lieutenant 2 | A6 |
| Your side | Bomb | B6 |
| Opponent's side | Field Marshal 9 | A11 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Lieutenant 2: A6 → B5
- Bomb: B6 → A6 · Removed
Opponent reply: Field Marshal 9, A11 → A6 · Captures: Bomb · Removed
- Lieutenant 2: B5 → A6
- Lieutenant 2: A6 → A11
Why this works
First move the rank-2 piece into the B5 camp, freeing A6. Move the bomb from B6 to A6; the commander replies from A11 and both are removed. Return the rank-2 piece to A6, then travel to A11 on the cleared railway.
Other orders and traps
The bomb does not need to reach A11 itself: placing it on A6 invites the training defender’s favorable capture. Leaving the rank-2 piece on that railway lets the commander remove it instead.
The order of trades
Within four moves, take out the enemy Brigadier, Bomb and Landmine, and send the Engineer to the target camp.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Brigadier 6 | A7 |
| Your side | Lieutenant 2 | B11 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | A11 |
| Opponent's side | Brigadier 6 | D7 |
| Opponent's side | Bomb | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | D11 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Brigadier 6: A7 → D7 · Captures: Brigadier 6 · Removed
- Lieutenant 2: B11 → C11 · Captures: Bomb · Removed
- Engineer 1: A11 → D11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: D11 → D10
Why this works
Trade the rank-6 pieces on D7, then trade the rank-2 piece for the bomb on C11. The engineer can now defuse D11 and take the road to the D10 camp. Only the engineer must reach the final square.
Other orders and traps
The first two trades can be reversed because the defenders hold. Using the engineer against the bomb loses the only piece required to reach the camp.
Break through, guard your Flag
Within four moves, take out the enemy Field Marshal, Landmine and Flag. Keep your own Flag and Engineer safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Bomb | A2 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | E7 |
| Your side | Flag | D1 |
| Opponent's side | Field Marshal 9 | D2 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Flag | D12 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Bomb: A2 → D2 · Captures: Field Marshal 9 · Removed
- Engineer 1: E7 → C11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: C11 → D11
- Engineer 1: D11 → D12 · Captures: Flag
Why this works
The bomb must remove the commander on D2 before the engineer advances. With your flag at D1 safe, the engineer defuses C11, moves to D11 and captures D12. The engineer and your flag both survive.
Other orders and traps
Advancing the engineer first gives the commander a reply against your flag at D1. A distant attack does not help if the defending flag is lost on the same turn.
No way out
Within five moves, take out three Landmines and the Flag, and keep your Engineer safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Engineer 1 | A11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | B11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | D11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | E12 |
| Opponent's side | Flag | D12 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Engineer 1: A11 → B11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: B11 → D11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: D11 → E11
- Engineer 1: E11 → E12 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: E12 → D12 · Captures: Flag
Why this works
Defuse B11 and D11 in order, then move to E11 and defuse E12 before capturing D12. The engineer survives each mine, and the E11 road approach accounts for the fifth move.
Other orders and traps
After D11, the nearby flag is tempting, but two goals still remain: the E12 mine and the flag. Entering headquarters too soon fails the exercise and leaves the engineer unable to return.
Final joint operation
Within six moves, take out the enemy Major General, Bomb, two Landmines and the Flag. Keep your Engineer safe.
| Side | Piece | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Your side | Bomb | A7 |
| Your side | Lieutenant 2 | A11 |
| Your side | Engineer 1 | E6 |
| Opponent's side | Major General 7 | D7 |
| Opponent's side | Bomb | B11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | C11 |
| Opponent's side | Landmine | D11 |
| Opponent's side | Flag | D12 |
Move sequence
One worked solution; other legal solutions may also work.
- Bomb: A7 → D7 · Captures: Major General 7 · Removed
- Lieutenant 2: A11 → B11 · Captures: Bomb · Removed
- Engineer 1: E6 → C11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: C11 → D11 · Captures: Landmine
- Engineer 1: D11 → D12 · Captures: Flag
Why this works
The bomb trades with the rank-7 defender on D7, and the rank-2 piece trades with the bomb on B11. The engineer then defuses C11 and D11 before capturing D12. Five moves satisfy every capture and preserve the engineer, within the six-move limit.
Other orders and traps
The first two trades can be reversed because the defenders hold. The engineer must avoid both the bomb and the higher rank; the displayed sequence is one valid solution, not the only order.
